About Ara Wine Bar:
Not Surprisingly, Ara Began Over A Glass of Wine. We Were Talking About How Difficult It Was To Find A Comfortable Place To Relax Have A Drink and Chat With Our Friends, Without Having To Fight Crowds and Pay A Fortune. As A Family We Love To Entertain and Love the Feeling of Closeness That Comes From Sharing Intimate Moments With Those Who Already Are, or Who Are Destined To Become Friends and Family. Our Mother Was Born in India, and Our Father Was Born in Brooklyn of Russian and Romanian Immigrants. the Two Shared A Passion for Travel and Culture. As Children We Voyaged All Over the World From Morocco To India, South America To Europe. With Each Trip Our Living Room Filled Up With Ethnic Dark Woods, Delightful Tapestries, and Wonderful Photographs. We Thought, Wouldn't It Be Great If We Could Transfer That Living Room From Our Family Home Into A Quiet Storefront in Manhattan? While the Meatpacking District Has Gone From Quiet To Crazy Since We First Opened Three Years Ago, We Have Fought Hard To Maintain Our Cozy, Relaxed, Inviting Ideal. We Chose Comfy Cushions of Indian Silk, Carved Indian Wood, and A Color Palate Based On the Moroccan Rug That Covered Our Living Room Floor When We Were Kids. We Chose Friends and Family To Run the Place With Us, and We Chose Affordable Wines From All Over the World. in Choosing the Wines We Had Help From Our Friend and Master Sommelier Josh Wesson. he Taught Us That Wine Is Like Art. the Best Wine Is A Wine You Love To Drink Regardless of Price or Rating. in Our Case, We Felt We Could Come Up With A Wine List That Would Satisfy Every Palate, From the Most Experienced To the Novice, At A Price That Would Make It Easy To Order A Second Glass. We Decided That We Would Try Every Wine Ourselves and Would Only Serve Wine We All Liked. Since We Each Have A Different Palate—ananda Loves Fruity New World Wines, Rehana Prefers Crisp Dry Wines, and Ari Is Partial To Earthy Reds—we Figured If We All Enjoyed A Wine It Had To Be Good. After Tasting Hundreds of Bottles, We Had Our First List, and We Haven't Looked Back Since. We'd Like To Welcome You To Our Wine Bar. We Hope You Leave Having Found A New Wine That You Love in A Bar That Feels A Lot Like Home. Not Surprisingly, Ara Began Over A Glass of Wine.
